New York Knicks: Carmelo Anthony on the Cusp of Legendary

If you want to be the most legendary of legends, succeeding in New York as a professional athlete is the quickest road up. Carmelo Anthony is playing lights-out for the New York Knicks right now and if he can keep it up, he could be the newest New York legend to take the city by storm.

After Jeremy Lin and Amar'e Stoudemire went down with injuries, it wasn't looking too good for the Knicks and especially, Anthony. Already having a rough year in the public spotlight, Melo had enormous pressure to not only elevate his game from its dreadful state, but to carry the team on his shoulders.

He has done just that and thanks to Melo, the Knicks are playing their best basketball without two of their best players.

In the process, Melo is putting up incredible numbers and is playing as well as he ever has in his career. It seems that not even top defensive teams like the Chicago Bulls and Miami Heat can stop him.

Now all Melo has to do is make his teammates around him better and that has already started with a triple-double 10-assist effort last night against the Boston Celtics.

Nobody can stop Melo right now. He is playing the type of basketball that is separating him from every other player in the NBA. His play is quickly becoming legendary.

So where could this lead?

Well depending on what the rest of his team does, it could lead to a deep run in the playoffs regardless of who they face in the first round.

Melo will complete the first step if he finishes the regular season strong and takes his team to the playoffs. The next step will be getting this team over the hump and out of the first round.

It'll be a tall order for Melo and the Knicks, but if he can get it done and take this team to a championship, Melo will become a legendary figure in not only New York, but the entire country for years to come.
