2012 NFL Draft: Second-Round Players with First-Round Value

Ryan RudnanskyJun 7, 2018

Every year, there are prospects who emerge from the second round of the NFL draft and stun the league.

We saw second-round picks such as Andy Dalton, Brooks Reed and Torrey Smith develop at a rapid rate last season, instantly proving they were meant to be a starter in the NFL.

This year, there will undoubtedly be some second-round sleepers who surprise the nation.

Here are three of them.

3. Mohamed Sanu, WR, Rutgers

Mohamed Sanu may not have blazing speed, which concerns NFL scouts, but sometimes you have to look at the overall package.

Sanu is a very confident player with tremendous hands and is dangerous after the catch. You couple that with his eye-opening body control and awareness, as well as his never-say-die attitude, and I think he's going to surprise a lot of people.

2. Lavonte David, LB, Nebraska

One of the few things holding Lavonte David back from being considered a first-round pick this past year was his size. He played at around 225 pounds at Nebraska and NFL scouts wondered if he had the necessary bulk to be a linebacker in the NFL. However, David has bulked up since then. He is now up over 230 pounds, and we can instead focus on his tremendous instincts, motor and tackling ability.

He racked up 133 tackles (12.0 for loss) and 5.5 sacks last season with the Cornhuskers. He could excel in a 4-3 front.

1. Janoris Jenkins, CB, North Alabama

Janoris Jenkins is the definition of a boom-or-bust player. He has all the tools in the world to excel in the NFL, but his character concerns, complete with two arrests for marijuana possession while at Florida, could push him back into the second round.

Jenkins did say the right things at the NFL Combine, however, and landing on a veteran-laden team would do him well.
