Brock Lesnar: WWE Makes Brilliant Move Allowing Superstar to Wear MMA Gear
Brock Lesnar may have grown up a WWE superstar, but he made his name as a mixed martial artist in UFC from 2008-2011. His popularity exploded after joining the prestigious fighting organization, so it is only natural that he be allowed to use most of his fighting gear from MMA in his return match with John Cena at Extreme Rules.
WWE let the big cat out of the bag earlier this week by releasing the photos of Lesnar's ring attire. His shorts actually contain the sponsors he used during his UFC tenure, which should tell you just how desperate Vince McMahon was to sign this man.

Regardless, it is a brilliant strategy for WWE to take. If Lesnar had just come back wearing his same old ring gear that he did when he left in 2004, it would have felt like he was just another WWE performer, following the strict guidelines that McMahon lays out. (Such as saying "WWE Universe.")
By allowing Lesnar to come to the ring and wrestle in his shorts, MMA gloves and black boots, he is going to have a different feel and presence that WWE desperately needs right now.
A part of the problem WWE has today is everyone is exactly the same. They all say the same stale lines, use the same lame catchphrases, walk the same, wrestle the same style and carry themselves in the same way as everyone else.
If the product was firing on all cylinders, that might not be such a terrible thing. Unfortunately, WWE has been in a long lull period where nothing ever changes.
Lesnar is that fresh face and voice the company so desperately needs. You could tell in the video package that was put together for him on Monday that he is so far above where anyone else in the company is, including Cena, that he can be a difference-maker whenever he wrestles.
Ring attire might not seem like that big of a deal, and in the scheme of things it really isn't, but when you combine that with everything else that Lesnar brings to the table, you have a winning combination.
It is so rare to see WWE bend its rules for anyone, so Lesnar making a concerted effort to use his own gear from UFC was a stroke of genius.
