Manny Pacquiao Stuns Filipino Trainer with Amazing Speed and Power
A day before reporting at the Baguio City training camp where Trainer Freddie Roach is working feverishly with British boxing star Amir Khan, who is preparing for a rematch with Lamont Peterson, Manny Pacquiao stunned his boyhood friend and assistant trainer, Buboy Fernandez, with his awesome speed and power.
Pacquiao is preparing for a showdown with unbeaten Palm Spring boxing star Timothy Bradley on June 9 in Las Vegas, Nev.
Pacquiao and Fernandez were at the MP Towers Gym in Manila Tuesday for a brief workout before motoring to the training camp in the high-altitude city of Baguio in Northern Luzon, Philippines, where Roach is anxiously waiting.
Fernandez claimed he has never seen his bosom buddy with the power and speed displayed in Tuesday's Gym workout and prior to a formal camp training. Fernandez took note of Pacquiao's transformation in just about a week of workouts in General Santos City.
"He is like the hungry teenage fighter who first came to Manila. He’s hungry again. It’s the old Manny,” Fernandez told Ronnie Nathannielsz of Philboxing. “I am big but if he connects with one shot it will be an early night for me, which will be the same for Bradley,” Fernandez added.
Fernandez attributes Pacquiao's awesome power and speed to his new lifestyle, which allows him to have more time in the gym rather than his usual chores—which include gambling, drinking and late-night happenings.
Since his designation as the "Bible ambassador" by the Roman Catholic hierarchy in the Philippines, Pacquiao has spent most of his spare time in Bible study along with his own family and most of the members of Team Pacquiao.
Bishop Pablo Virgilio David of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines(CBCP) Bible ministry said Pacquiao's influence on the people being a well known personality will serve well in spreading the scriptures among Catholics.
“Manny has always been very religious and we are happy that he is deepening his faith and his understanding of the Bible,” said David via MB.com.
Pacquio, who recently announced his intention to run for Governor of Sarangani province in southern Philippines next year, will spend three weeks in Baguio City before moving to the Wild Card Gym in Hollywood for the final phase of his training.
