Dave's College Basketball Picks, Jan. 24: Wisconsin at Illinois

Wisconsin is in trouble. The wheels have fallen off and the road is getting steep. The Badgers have lost three in a row, including a 73-69 loss at Iowa in overtime. Our pick of Iowa against the spread was on the money, as we had concerns about the Badger guard play. Hughes has been struggling. Coach Ryan even took him out in key minutes late in the Iowa game in favor of freshman Jordan Taylor.

Illinois has been a force. With a 10-1 mark at Assembly Hall, including a 66-49 dismantling of Ohio State, Illinois has shown itself to be a complete package.

ATS

Wisconsin is 7-9 ATS including 3-3 on the road
Wisconsin is 5-4-1 ATS against Illinois in their last 10 matchups
Illinois is 11-5 ATS including 7-4 at home

Wisconsin won all three meetings last year by double digits. The two programs are heading in opposite direction right now though. I don’t see a matchup on the Wisconsin roster for 7’1” Mike Tisdale of Illinois. Much like we predicted for Michigan last week, the bottom is about to fall out from under the Badgers. An eight-game losing streak is entirely possible with the next victory not occurring until a Feb. 11 match up at home against Iowa.
