The Pittsburgh Steelers have released their 80th anniversary throwback jerseys, and they are, in a word, unique.
You may recall the most recent round of Steelers throwback jerseys, first debuted during their 75th anniversary season five years ago, which featured a minimalistic gold-numbers-on-black-jersey design with simple gold helmets.

This time around, they're throwing it back even farther, with wide black-and-gold striped jerseys featuring oversized squared-off numbers, what appears to be light gold pants and more stripes—this time on the socks, in a homage to their 1934 uniforms.
The look certainly isn't going to blend in, and it has a certain "killer bee" aesthetic that will likely have the team subject to ridicule from fans and foes alike.
But it's certainly a departure and a gutsy move. Yes, the Blind Melon (and Stryper) jokes are already flying.
