NFL Trade Rumors: Who's Willing to Wheel and Deal in 2012 NFL Draft?

Jake MartinApr 18, 2012

As the NFL draft draws near, more rumors of teams looking to make moves in the draft are starting to surface.

With future stars in the league on the board, teams' strategies of getting the player they want are starting to become more and more visible.

Whether it's a move to throw other teams off or if it's an actual trade that the team wants to make, various teams have thrown out their interest in moving up or down in the 2012 NFL draft.

These are the teams that are looking to make a deal.

Minnesota Vikings

The Minnesota Vikings are shopping their No. 3 pick overall.

At first, many believed the Vikings were going to take Matt Kalil with that pick, but ESPN's Adam Schefter has given reason to believe otherwise.

According to Rotoworld, Adam Schefter wrote in an ESPN Insider Q & A, "in talking to people around the league, I don't think Kalil is a lock to Minnesota at No. 3 by any stretch."

That would mean that the Vikings are willing to make a move, but will they find a suitor? Shefter also said that teams are "sniffing around" that No. 3 pick, but no word on any suitors just yet.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and St. Louis Rams have expressed interest in wanting to move up, and if the Vikings can make a deal with either team, they would be able to gain more picks in a trade and still be able to draft Kalil.

St. Louis Rams

Following their advantageous trade with the Washington Redskins, the St. Louis Rams might not have finished swapping positions in the first round of the draft.

The Rams have shown interest in both Trent Richardson and Justin Blackmon, but Blackmon is perceived to be the Rams' main target in the draft.

Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reported that multiple teams are "believed to be" interested in the Cleveland Browns No. 4 pick, and she reported one of those teams to be the Rams.

With the Rams having two second-round picks and only being two spots behind the Browns with the No. 6 overall, a trade between the Rams and Browns isn't far stretched.

San Diego Chargers

Michael Ghelken of the Union-Tribune San Diego is reporting that the San Diego Chargers are looking to make a move in the first round of the draft.

Chargers GM A.J. Smith mentioned that the team was "wide open" to any first-round trades in the draft.

The Chargers' biggest need is a pass-rusher, and should Melvin Ingram slip out of the Top 10, the Chargers could trade up to try and snatch him away.

With teams such as the Dallas Cowboys previously sharing interest in moving down, the Chargers moving up in the draft could easily become a reality.

New York Jets

The Chargers aren't the only team that's interested in Ingram, as the New York Jets have expressed interest in the versatile defensive playmaker.

With the Jets defense a 3-4 base, a player like Ingram would most likely come in right away and star in the formation.

But with the 16th pick in the draft, Ingram would most likely be left off of the boards, so that has the team thinking about moving up.

Tony Pauline of draftinsider.net reported that league insiders have said that the Jets' "primary strategy" in the draft is to trade up for Ingram, and he also said that the Jacksonville Jaguars could be potential trade partners.

Seattle Seahawks

5 of 5

Tony Pauline of si.com and draftinsider.net reported that the Seattle Seahawks want Mark Barron or Dont'a Hightower, so the team is looking to trade down in the draft.

With the No. 12 pick in the draft, Hightower and Barron would both be available, and they would most likely be available later in the first round, especially Hightower. So it would make no sense for the Seahawks to take either prospect that early.

The Seahawks have only six picks in the draft, and it would be an ideal situation if they could make a deal with another team to trade down and get more picks in the draft while still grabbing Hightower or Barron.

The Seahawks are still looking for a team to trade with in order for all of this to happen.
