Houston Texans: An Update on Matt Schaub's Health

Field YatesJun 7, 2018

The loss of Matt Schaub to a foot injury was one that the Houston Texans were nearly able to overcome in 2011.

But it's clear that the team is much better off with their franchise quarterback healthy and under center.

It looks as though that will be the case when the Texans open up their season this fall. Schaub is moving along in his recovery from the injury, which has included a recent procedure to remove hardware from his foot.

Schaub recently spoke about his progress. From Mike Florio of PFT:

"

“I had a procedure last week, getting hardware taken out, which is customary for this thing, so just let the incisions heal up and move forward.  I’m right on schedule because where the hardware removal takes place in this procedure is right where we are and so from here, we just move forward and just keep going.  But we have a lot of time left to get ready and there’s no doubt I will be ready.”

"

It's good news for a team that has had an up-and-down offseason. The Texans lost Mario Williams in free agency, traded away defensive stalwart Demeco Ryans and cut right tackle Eric Winston, but they also agreed to new long-term deals with both running back Arian Foster and center Chris Myers.

Schaub said he will be on the field for the start of training camp, which should give him plenty of time to adjust to a handful of newcomers to his offense in 2012.  The team is expected to target a wide receiver early in the draft and may also be interested in adding another tight end after losing Joel Dreessen in free agency.
