Is Peter Forsberg the Brett Favre of the NHL?
With the reports that Danny Briere will be out of the Flyers lineup for at least four weeks now after exploratory surgery, the rumor mill is full of Peter Forsberg dreams.
Sam Carchidi of The Philadelphia Inquirer reported that Flyers General Manager Paul Holmgren has revealed that he has investigated the possibility.
Let's talk about Briere first.
Briere has played a total of nine games for the orange and black this season and is starting to look like another botched acquisition of a star player in Philadelphia.

Hopefully Briere can be available and 100 percent for the playoffs.
If Briere is healthy, then he can make the Flyers a better team, no question about it, but he needs to have some continuity with line mates.
Last season the problem was the fact that Simon Gagne was out for the year, forcing some shuffling of the lines before everything was settled.
Now Forsberg—still regarded as one of the best players to play the game—has battled some injuries the past few years. Since he last played in the NHL, he has been working out in his home country of Sweden and has been contemplating a return.
Much like Brett Favre's annual offseason "Will he or Won't he?" spectacle, Forsberg's decision has been watched closely and thought about in a number of scenarios. The Flyers and Colorado Avalanche are the teams that are consistently at the top of those rumors.
Should the Flyers go down that road again?
When Forsberg was a Flyer, he was constantly having injury problems surrounding his foot, which is what he is still working on while in Sweden. The problems followed him after departing from Philadelphia on good terms.
If Forsberg is going to be healthy, I would want the Flyers to make a move if possible. It would be hard to pass up on a healthy Forsberg, but then I would have to worry about the chemistry issue as well.
The Flyers are playing pretty well as they enter the All-Star break.
Would adding Forsberg disrupt the team?
What would the lines look like with Forsberg on the roster?
What if Briere came back healthy as well?
Imagine the firepower the Flyers would boast with Forsberg, Briere, Gagne, Jeff Carter, and Mike Richards on two different lines.
Is it worth taking a chance on Forsberg?
Probably not.
Would acquiring Forsberg intrigue me?
Absolutely.
If Forsberg makes a return to the NHL this year, it would be hard to picture him in anything but an Avalanche jersey, but we'll wait and see how this all turns out.
