Border War: Margarito Vs. Mosley- The Battle for Mexi-Cali
This is it, the first "Big" fight of 2009. Margarito vs. Mosley, a fight that Antonio really didn't want to take. In this fight, a lot of experts will use both fighters' performance against Miguel Cotto as a measuring stick to determine how this fight will end. I, for one, disagree with using that idea.
In this fight, look for Margarito to come out the way that he did in the second encounter with Cintron and the ladder part of the Cotto fight. If Margarito can get Shane to remain still and attack his head the way Cotto did then Antonio will easily put Mosley to sleep. Pressure, pressure, pressure, will be the Margarito camp's plan: IT ALWAYS IS.
The thing that Mosley must do to win this fight is to forget his fight with Cotto. He has to turn and spin Margarito. The danger comes when fighters allow Antonio to gear himself up to move forward. Point blank, Margarito is a human heat-seeking missile when he is allowed to go forward.
In this fight, the person with the most to gain is Margarito. Mosley has already earned himself a spot in the boxing hall of fame. Margarito, on the other hand, is all smoke and mirrors. YES, smoke and mirrors!
Who has he fought? He lost to the best welterweight in the world (Paul Williams), defeated a fighter who seemed to be forced to fight him (Kermit Cintron), and Cotto simply fought the wrong fight.
So, Margarito has much more to gain than Mosley.
If Mosley does win, he will do one of three things:
- Call out the winner of the Hatton/Pacquiao fight.
- Attempt to call out Floyd Mayweather Jr.
- Call out Andre Berto.
Regardless, he (Mosley) will want to fight the best.
The fight should be a back and forth type of affair, however, I believe that Nazir Richardson will cook up a fight plan that will allow for Shane to use is far superior boxing ability. Look for a lot of movement from Mosley, simple turns that will keep Margarito off balance.
In any event, if Shane moves and doesn't get into exchanges with Margarito, then he (Mosley) should easily out point Margarito.
My pick, Shane on points.
