Heat vs Knicks: Potential Playoff Matchup Would Be Highlight of 1st Round

Richard LangfordApr 15, 2012

If the Miami Heat take on the New York Knicks it will be the most anticipated No. 2 seed vs. No. 7 seed matchup in the history of the playoffs.

If the two meet in the playoffs, the two-seven matchup is the only realistic possibility. The Heat are currently the second seed. They trail Chicago by three games for the No. 1 seed and lead third-place Indiana by 4.5 games.

With just seven games left, they aren't likely to end up with anything but the No. 2 seed.

Meanwhile, New York is the currently the eight seed, but they trail Philadelphia by only half a game for the seventh seed.

Basketball fans everywhere should be pulling for them to pass Philadelphia because a Knicks-Heat series will be as good as the first round can get.

This much was on display on Sunday as the Heat took down the Knicks, 93-85. This game was close throughout, and more importantly it was exciting. That is no surprise. It usually is when LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony meet.

The two stars seem to bring out the best in each other, and it definitely brought the best out of Anthony on Sunday.

Anthony went for 42 points on 14-of-27 shooting. The 42 points is his second-highest total of the season. He also added nine rebounds and five assists.

LeBron was not just sitting idly by while Melo went off, either. He had a solid game, going for 29 points on 11-of-24 shooting. He also grabbed 10 boards and dished out three assists.

He also had this little statement drive that he finished in Melo's face.

The Bron vs. Melo matchup is the best head-to-head battle that the NBA has to offer. It is two versatile players that have the size to guard each other.

The prospect of these two players matching up for an entire series while representing two of the league's marquee teams is a playoff dream.

Now we just have to hope the selfish 76ers don't blow it for us all.
