Joe Vs Jen 2: Who Will Beat Ric Flair's 16 World Titles Record?

Joe Burgett Jan 23, 2009

The other day I challenged B/R Writer Jen Preston to a writer vs writer. It turned out well with many of the readers taking both Jen's and my side. So we thought we would try this again.

So here we go

"To be the man you have to beat the man" -Ric Flair

For a long time now, no one has ever thought that anyone would be able to beat Ric Flair's 16 World Title record. It has held for years now, and he has not has a World Title reign in about 10 years to boot.

But know there are so many people who are close to winning it.

I mean, there is Jeff Jarrett who is a 12 time World Champion.

Kurt Angle, who is also a 12 time World Champion.

But one man seems to be the one guy who will beat the record. And that is a person is a friend of Flair's and that is Triple H—also a big-time Superstar and incredibly over. He is a 12 time World Champion like the others.

There are a few reasons why I think this. First off, the few others close the the record as Triple H is in Jarrett and Angle are not really ever going to get there. Jarrett is getting older in age and is focusing on the company of TNA more.

Angle could compete for it, but I feel since his contract ends in the spring that TNA will try and give younger talent or people with longer contracts a chance to win it. Could be why Sting is holding the Title now.

Many believe he is going to jump ship to the WWE or even MMA when his contract ends, so I'm sure they don't trust him with the TNA World Title. If he comes to the WWE then he may hold another, but there are so many others to compete with.

Triple H has the best chance. First off, he has management behind him. Something all superstars need to get ahead. He has writers behind him on whatever show he is on. He has proven that he can hold a World Title well, too.

He wins it the right way too. Unlike Edge, who could challenge for it, he wins it after earning the chance to do so. Edge may get there, but the way he wins his World Titles are not really fair.

Look at Flair, he won his World Titles without a gimmick to get ahead in. Sure, like many wrestlers who stick around, they turn heel.

Those heel superstars get help to win matches, but that is different than just winning by coming in at the end and getting the cover.

What Triple H does is hold the World Titles he wins for a long period of time. That may hurt him in some ways though. Fans may see Triple H hold the title long and then want to see another Champion because they just want to see change.

But most Triple H fans like to see him as World Champion longer. Which helps him, too. It is kind of 50/50 for Triple H. Some fans want to see Triple h as Champion long, others do not.

I personally like to see him as World Champion on whatever show he is on. Whether it be RAW or SmackDown he always holds the Title well. Sometimes he is the only one who can hold the Title too.

If there are injuries to big name stars then Triple H usually holds the Title for the simple fact that there is no one left.

He also is young enough to beat the record. Sure he is in his 40s, but he is in great shape and has stayed that way. I feel he should win the Title and have shorter title reigns similar to the Undertaker when he wins it.

Usually, when 'Taker holds the title, he only holds it for five months or less. Triple H's reigns usually average to be around seven or eight months. If he were to do it that way, fans would be behind him not getting to bored with one champion.

He would also end up getting the record that way to, probably quicker too. But that is just my opinion.

Check out Jen Preston's article too when you get a chance.
