Marquez vs. Fedchenko: Dinamita Deserves One More Shot at Pacquiao

Richard LangfordJun 6, 2018

Juan Manuel "Dinamita" Marquez shouldn't have to wait another bout before getting a rematch with Manny Pacquiao. He didn't want to wait any bouts. In fact, if Marquez would have had things his way, he would have been duking it out with Pac-Man on Saturday night instead of fighting Sergey Fedchenko, according to Dan Rafael of ESPN.com.

That desire was not reciprocated by the Pacquiao camp, and Pacquiao has an upcoming bout with Timothy Bradley.

That left Marquez to take on the supremely out-classed Fedchenko. Dinamita did not let his disappointment over his opponent lessen his preparation or fighting. He looked as good as ever when he beat Fedchenko on a unanimous decision Saturday night.

Marquez punished Fedchenko for 12 rounds. It was one of those fights where the loser was so bad that he can feel good about the fact that he didn't get knocked out.

There is little doubting how Marquez was able to keep his edge, despite fighting someone he was clearly superior to. Marquez considers it all preparation for his next shot at Pacquiao. From Rafael:

"

The main reason for me to continue is that I want a rematch with Manny and that is the main factor for me to come back. I have the fight on [Saturday], but I train very hard again. I think I won the last fight and I am looking for the rematch.

"

He is looking for it, and he should get it. Pacquiao vs. Marquez for the fourth time is not the sexiest bout—simply because it will be the fourth time—but there is next to no doubt that it will be an exciting and well-fought bout. And more than anything, he deserves it.

Marquez is 0-2-1 against Pac-Man, and every decision could have easily gone his way. Dinamita also showed that time is not eroding his skills. He is still an elite, hard-working fighter who deserves a rematch with Pacquiao.
