World Football: Teen Prodigy Scores the Only Goal You Need to See This Weekend

Michael CummingsApr 15, 2012

Long Island: Hotbed of world-class soccer talent?

Before you laugh, watch this video.

The youngster scoring this outstanding goal is Nkosi Burgess, and he plays U-15 soccer in Long Island, New York. The goal comes to us from a recent match between Hauppauge Brazil and the Dix Hills Heat.

Here's a link to the original YouTube video of the goal, and here's me tipping my hat to 101 Great Goals for an excellent find.

So, let's break this goal down.

First, a long cross flies in from the left. Nobody seems to be marking on that side of the field, but we'll overlook that for now.

Then, a bunch of voices in the background remark that it was a nice ball. They haven't seen anything yet.

Next, Burgess enters Beast Mode. His first touch is a behind-the-back flick into the air and his second is an aerial, overhead shot into the far corner.

Just like the pros.

Finally, a voice on the video marvels at what he's just seen.

"Wow. Holy crap."

Indeed, sir. But I have a couple more thoughts.

1. Do club soccer teams in New York teach defense? Why was no defender putting a body on Burgess? Everybody knows you can't let an attacker turn inside the box.

2. Props to the goalie for diving even when he clearly had no chance to save the shot. It's nice to see someone bucking the annoying goalkeeper trend of not diving when they're beaten.

With that said, where do you think we'll see young Mr. Burgess next? MLS should be calling up his coach immediately, I think.
