NBA Draft 2012: 5 Teams That Will Be Making Trades on Draft Night

John NizinskiJun 2, 2018

With the NCAA basketball season over, we are learning which players will stay in school and which players will declare for the NBA draft

Draft night is always a night that has a lot of action among NBA teams. Deals are made throughout the day, as teams look to improve for the upcoming season.

Here is a look at five teams that will most likely make a deal on the night of the draft.

Boston Celtics

1 of 5

The Boston Celtics probably have one last push at an NBA title with their current roster. They have been playing well recently, winning eight out of their last 10 games.

After this season, we could see a completely different Celtics team. They may decide to not re-sign both Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett.

They could also trade Paul Pierce on the night of the draft in order to load up on draft picks. The Celtics could get a late first-round pick for Pierce, which is valuable because it is a deep draft.

Cleveland Cavaliers

2 of 5

The Cleveland Cavaliers struck gold in 2011, when they won the lottery and had the fourth pick as well. As a result, they acquired Kyrie Irving.

Irving is going to be the NBA Rookie of the Year, and has led the Cavaliers to a 19-37 record. They are 10 games out of eighth place in the Eastern Conference.

The Cavaliers could decide to trade their current draft pick for a veteran who will put them into contention—or they could continue to rebuild with young talent and try and acquire multiple draft picks.

Sacramento Kings

3 of 5

DeMarcus Cousins has been discussed in trade speculation all season. He is one of the best young players in the NBA but has had issues.

The Kings might finally decide to trade Cousins on draft night. They could acquire a top draft pick, which would give them two potential top-five picks.

Houston Rockets

4 of 5

The Houston Rockets have not been hesitant to trade draft picks lately. They have the New York Knicks' first-round draft pick, and also could have the Dallas Mavericks', depending on how they finish. Their pick belongs to the New Jersey Nets.

We could see the Rockets make a trade that involves some of the picks that they have. They are one star player away from being among the best in the NBA.

New Jersey Nets

5 of 5

The New Jersey Nets will make the move to Brooklyn next season. In order to make that transition successful, they will have to make a significant move.

Nets GM Billy King is known for making deals on draft day. A deal for Dwight Howard is still not impossible, but there are other moves they can make as well. Expect the Nets to make multiple deals on the night of the draft.
