Michael Floyd: 6 Best Video Highlights of Star 2012 NFL Draft Prospect
Michael Floyd did the best thing he could do when he held his personal pro day for NFL scouts recently.
After seeing the 6'3" Floyd catch everything in sight, run the 40-yard dash and answer the questions that needed to be answered from pro scouts, it appears Floyd, a senior from Notre Dame, may have moved himself into the top 10 of the NFL draft in 10 days.
That is good news for teams like Cleveland, Jacksonville, St. Louis, Carolina and Miami, who all may be interested in adding a great set of hands and play-making ability to the starting lineup.
Floyd was once perceived as a middle of the first-round pick and second or third on the draft board behind Oklahoma State's Justin Blackmon. What was a wide gap seems to have closed a bit, and now Floyd could be catching up to the consensus "best receiver on the board."
If Floyd is to leap frog over Blackmon, it will be because of his bigger size and his potential—and a highlight reel of plays as a Golden Domer.
Here are some of Floyd's top highlights while in South Bend.
Michigan 2011
1 of 6Floyd was the main target in the Fighting Irish offense against the Wolverines.
While Floyd was known to be the key target in the passing offense, he was open across the field throughout the game, and the secondary could do nothing about it.
Even on the sideline pass, Floyd used his height to get above the defender and take the ball away from the secondary for lethal yardage.
Floyd's Record 28 Touchdowns
2 of 6Floyd caught 28 touchdown passes while at Notre Dame. That is more than Tim Brown, the former Heisman Trophy winner.
Floyd had become the key target for the past three seasons in the Fight Irish offense. While the teams he played on were not always worthy of major contention, he still managed to become the most decorated pass-catcher in the school's history.
South Florida 2011
3 of 6Floyd continued to impress against the Bulls last season.
When the team needs first downs, Floyd was able to make simple catches over the middle and then take them for long gains.
Floyd has had a penchant for gaining large chunks of yardage after the catch, which is crucial in a pro-style offense.
Moving the chains is one thing; gaining yardage after making a first down makes him that much more valuable.
Miami 2010 Sun Bowl
4 of 6The best way to showcase your talent is on a national stage.
And against Miami in the Sun Bowl, Floyd had that opportunity. Floyd had a field day against the Hurricanes' secondary.
Whether it was across the middle, in the seam or on a fade pass, Floyd found the ball and made every opportunity count.
He could have those same factors in the NFL for a team like Jacksonville, Buffalo, Seattle or even the New York Jets.
Stanford 2011
5 of 6Floyd loves man-on-man coverage. His speed moving across the middle makes it difficult to keep up with him.
But in tight spaces, like when he comes to the sideline, Floyd uses the outside part of his body to make the catch and bring the ball into his body before going out of bounds.
2012 Combine
6 of 6He ran a 4.47 40-yard sprint to start things off in Indianapolis.
Floyd has been closing the gap between himself and Justin Blackmon in the last month. He also had a 36.5" vertical leap, which means he can out-jump his opponents and could be a really important end zone threat that teams need.
Floyd is also hard to tackle in the open field, and at 220 pounds, he is not afraid to go across the middle of the field to make the difficult catch.
