2012 NFL Free Agency: Chargers Sign a Trio of Veteran Free Agents

Field YatesJun 1, 2018

The San Diego Chargers have come to terms with a trio of veteran free agents: offensive tackle Mario Henderson, long snapper Mike Windt and offensive lineman Brandyn Dombrowski, the team announced today via Twitter.

Henderson was originally drafted by the Oakland Raiders in the third round of the 2007 draft, and became the team's full time starter at left tackle for the 2009 season.  He lost his job to then-rookie Jared Veldheer in 2010, and spent the entire 2011 sason out of the NFL.

He was arrested in March of 2011, and charged with carrying a concealed firearm.  The Florida State product is 6'7" and should add depth to the Chargers' offensive line.

Windt was one of five long snappers the Chargers used in 2010, but he turned his impressive 11-game audition into the full-time job for 2011, and will be brought back to fill the same steady role next season.  He was initially signed as a college free agent by the Bengals in 2010, but was eventually waived by the team before the start of the regular season.

Dombrowski has played a valuable role filling in all over the line for the Chargers, including time spent as a left tackle as well as at guard.  He went to school at nearby San Diego State, however was not drafted, but was signed by the Chargers as a free agent in 2008.  He spent his first NFL season on the team's practice squad, and has since evolved into an unheralded member of the 53-man roster.

The Chargers finished 2011 8-8, hopefully these three signings will help this team improve that much more for this upcoming season.
