MMA Free Agents The UFC Should Sign
With the MMA organization, EliteXC going bankrupt, many talented fighters were left without a place to call home. Some fighters were able to fight in other companies while some had nowhere to go.
The fighters listed below are free agents from EliteXC that the UFC should get their hands on, not because they are future champions, just because they can bring something new and interesting to the UFC.
Brett Rogers
This big heavyweight could easily spice things up in the UFC. He's still undefeated so it would be interesting to see him match it up with the UFC's best fighters. Rogers has beaten some good fighters in the past, but not great fighters, a fight against Gonzaga, Carwin or Kongo could be very interesting.
What makes Brett such an interesting choice is he's undefeated and won all his fights in the first round against good fighters. This guy could be great, he's untested against the best fighters in the heavyweight division.
Joey Villasenor
Is he a great middleweight... no but he's exciting. This guy loves to strike with the best and that makes for great fights. Brigning him in the UFC wouldn't be about him becoming UFC champion, rather, it would be about signing an exciting fighter who could have great fights against Patrick Cote, Chris Leben and Michael Bisping.
Of course, Joey is no joke either, he has victories over talented fighters like Phil Baroni, David Loiseau and Jorge Santiago.
Nick Diaz
Diaz has tasted what the UFC is all about. Having fought nine times in the UFC octagon, Diaz is a very talented welterweight that has fought the best fighters there was to offer. With Diaz returning, he has some very interesting fights ahead of him against Dustin Hazelett and Josh Koscheck to name a few.
Robbie Lawler
Like Nick Diaz, Lawler is a UFC veteran who has had and up and down career with the organization. He was a very talented fighter at a certain point and the most feared striker in the welterweight division. A series of losses and he was out.
Lawler left the UFC and lost only 1 of his 9 fights since leaving the organization. He became EliteXC's middleweight champion, nothing to compare with Anderson Silva, but still, he could bang with the best strikers in the UFC middleweight division.
Gina Carano
Since Dana White expressed he was interested in having Gina Carano signed, maybe with WEC, this has been an interesting situation. The face of women's MMA could end up with the WEC where a female division would be made.
It's interesting because Gina is one of the most popular fighters in MMA and having her in your company means instant ratings. If a women's division can be created in WEC with Gina in it, it should be done.
Jake Shields
Jake Shields is a very talented welterweight fighter that just has to make it with the UFC. Shields has proved his superiority over very good fighters but he still hasn't tasted the UFC's welterweight division and it would be interesting to see what would happen.
Shields has talked about a fight with GSP in the future, but he also has great potential fights against Koscheck, Fitch, Hazelett and more.
So weather these fighters make it to the UFC or not is still unknown. One thing is sure, the UFC could benefit from having those fighters in their roster to spice things up and bring new challenges to their fighters.
If you have any other free agents that would be interesting to see fighting in the UFC, just let us know.
