WWE's Best Match of the Week: Santino/Clay vs. Ziggler/Swagger on Monday's Raw
Let’s just be honest with ourselves here—it was a pretty brutal week for the WWE in terms of actual wrestling.
The longest match of the week lasted only about eight minutes, and both Monday Night Raw and Friday Night SmackDown were highlighted by squashes and quick comedy matches.
So choosing the “Best Match of the Week” is sort of like trying to decide whether to get that root canal or have knee surgery. Either way, nothing that you pick is gonna be good.

Therefore, I decided to go with the tag-team match on Monday’s Raw featuring Santino Marella and Brodus Clay taking on the duo of Jack Swagger and Dolph Ziggler.
Was it epic? No. Far from it.
Clay/Santino vs. Ziggler/Swagger was pretty much your standard tag-team match that you see every week on either Raw or SmackDown, but at least a couple of things stood out about it.
For the first time since returning under the “Funkasaurus” character, Clay wasn’t involved in a squash match and actually showed some weaknesses when he was taken down by both Ziggler and Swagger.
We finally got to see Clay do more than just hit a couple of moves and call it a night. He actually had to get into the flow of the match and work it with a tag-team partner, so that was nice to see.
Then, of course, there was the best part of the bout: Ziggler’s bumping and selling.
I could have easily gotten bored with this match, but Ziggler saved it for me when Clay hit him with a couple of big moves and he looked like had just been hit by a freight train.
Seriously, the dude’s selling is unbelievable.
I had to give him props for making Clay look good, and I had to give Clay props for competing in an actual match for once.
Now, if we can get these two teams into the WWE Tag Team Championship picture, then we’re talking.
Note: As part of the new WWE blog, I'll be asking all of the B/R wrestling readers for questions for a new mailbag that I will post on Fridays. It will be a slideshow featuring 10-20 questions and answers on a wide range of topics. You can submit questions either through Formspring or Twitter, and the best ones will be answered in the B/R mailbag.
