NHL Playoffs 2012: LA Kings' Twitter Gag Will Give Canucks New Life

Adam WellsJun 7, 2018

The Los Angeles Kings were fortunate to get into the Stanley Cup Playoffs as the No. 8 seed in the Western Conference. Now that they are there, they have no problem poking a wounded bear.

Following the team's 4-2 victory over the Vancouver Canucks on Thursday, the digital media team posted this on Twitter:

"

To everyone in Canada outside of BC, you're welcome.

— LA Kings (@LAKings) April 12, 2012"

The Kings did apologize (sort of) for the post, using the always-sincere line about "if anyone was offended..." but the damage was done. Plus, they weren't that sorry because the post is still up on the team's official Twitter page.

But this is exactly the kind of thing the Kings did not need to do. They were lucky to squeak by the No. 1 seed in the postseason thanks to a late goal in Game 1 of the series. They should be thanking their lucky stars they got that win.

Now, here they are as confident as ever, and their promotional department has to not only blast the Canucks, but bring British Columbia into it.

Game 2 is going to be hostile, simply because the fans there are not going to want to see the Kings win again. Oftentimes we overrate just how important home-ice advantage really is, but why would you want to tempt fate by provoking an entire Canadian province?

The Canucks players aren't going to react well to seeing this kind of slam. They are going to come out ready to attack, not just in this game but for the rest of the series.

It was a nice win for the Kings in Game 1, but they have no idea what they have gotten themselves into now.
