Tennessee Titans: Could They Take a Receiver with the 20th Overall Pick?

Marlon MaloneyJun 7, 2018

All the mock drafts of late seem to have the Titans pegged to select Dre Kirkpatrick or Stephon Gilmore in the NFL Draft later this month.

And if the titans aren't being projected to take either of those guys, the pick is still defensively oriented.

However, wide receiver Kendall Wright made a visit to Baptist Sports Park on Wednesday, according to The Tennessean

Wright joins fellow prospects Alshon Jeffery, Stephen Hill and Michael Floyd as receivers that have visited the Titans this offseason.

All those listed above are expected to be selected in the first round, or very early in the second.

This means the Titans could be looking to make another first-round splash by taking a wideout with the 20th overall pick in the draft.

Yes, Kenny Britt looked like a bona fide star for the very short amount of time that he was able to play last season, but if there's anything we can take note of after watching the NFL Playoffs, it's that offense wins.

The New England Patriots beat out the Baltimore Ravens using a three-headed passing attack—Rob Gronkowski, Wes Welker and Aaron Hernandez—and the New York Giants edged the San Francisco 49ers with Victor Cruz, Hakeem Nicks and Mario Manningham.

With Britt coming off both ACL and MCL tears along with his checkered injured hamstring history, there's no guarantee of fans seeing the same player again.

Let's face it, Nate Washington, Damian Williams and Lavelle Hawkins aren't scaring anyone—there is a need to upgrade the position.

The NFL is skewing more and more toward offense these days, but is taking a receiver in the first round the right pick for the Titans?

Most draft analysts seem to think that there are no real standouts on along the defensive line and the coaching staff seems content with the current starting cornerbacks already on the roster.

This could all just be a smoke-screen, but it is definitely an interesting development with only a couple weeks left before draft day.
