Red Wings vs Predators Video: Watch Shea Weber's Cheap Shot on Henrik Zetterberg
The Nashville Predators had a bittersweet 3-2 victory over the Detroit Red Wings in Game 1 of the Western Conference Quarterfinals.
Sure, it’s great to register the playoff win, but a poor decision by Shea Weber may cost him the rest of the series.
As the clock wound down to zero, the defensiveman landed multiple cheap shots on Red Wings forward Henrik Zetterberg. It appeared as if Weber was attempting to pin the puck against the boards to kill time and ensure his team’s victory. Somewhere along the line, his thought-process turned to punching Zetterberg in the back of the head against the glass to make sure he didn’t get the puck.

He capped off the barbaric play by smashing Zetterberg's head into the glass as the horn sounded.
This is a big deal considering the emphasis placed on eliminating head shots this season. There is a strong chance that Weber will be suspended for Game 2 so the NHL can send a message that blows to the head, even in the playoffs, are unacceptable.
He was whistled for the penalty, two minutes for roughing, and it was ironic the refs even called the penalty. They were wildly inconsistent throughout the game, taking away from what turned out to be an incredibly intense Game 1.
If this were the regular season, a five-game suspension would be in order, but what about in the playoffs, where the NHL is notoriously lenient?
My guess is a one-game ban and heavy fine. Check back with Bleacher Report for the official announcement as soon as the news is broken.
