Nerlens Noel to Kentucky: Wildcats Defense Will Be Even Better Next Season

Richard LangfordJun 7, 2018

As if winning the national championship wasn't enough, Kentucky fans just got another reason to be ecstatic. Their school just landed Nerlens Noel—the player most people felt was the best recruit in the nation for next season.

Noel figures to be Kentucky's next one-and-done super freshman. He has all the makings to be a dominant college and NBA big man.

He is 6'10" and 215 pounds. While you would like to see him add some bulk, his body has the room to add some muscle—it will simply be a matter of time.

And despite being tall and lanky, Noel is a fluid and natural athlete. This is what is so exciting about him. He can run the court like a gazelle. He also has nimble feet, which allows him to pull of nice low post moves.

He has a polished offensive game for a teenager, and it isn't even his offense that is his most valuable assets. Noel is one of the best shot blockers on the planet—I don't care what level we are talking about.

He has long arms and a quick leap, but above that he has amazing timing and instincts. Noel is going to be a force in the middle of the Wildcats' defense to an even greater degree than Anthony Davis was.

Davis averaged 4.7 blocks a game last year. Noel is going to be closer to six than to five. While that is an insanely high number, he is that good on the defensive end.

He is also an elite rebounder, and will gobble up the defensive boards. Noel is not quite at Davis' standards when it comes to touch around the rim, but he eclipses him on defense, and his arrival ensures the Wildcats do not have to worry about taking a step back on D.
