2012 Possible Atlanta Falcons Draft Pick Profile: RB David Wilson

Scott CarasikJun 7, 2018

With Michael Turner looking expendable this past season, it wouldn't be a shock to see Atlanta draft a running back to compete with him.

Wilson could be the guy who takes his spot long term.

Scouting Report

Strengths

Wilson has great breakaway speed and accelerates through holes aggressively. He's a good fit for a zone-style running scheme as is very much a one-cut and go style runner. He also has the ability to make people miss.

Wilson's shiftiness and speed is something that's definitely needed in Atlanta and does extremely well on screen routes because of it. He also has great athleticism and vision and can find the holes when they aren’t open yet.

Weaknesses

Wilson's average at best in pass-blocking and has a lot of trouble with larger blitzers. He has some power in his game but it wouldn’t hurt for him to get a good bit stronger and also has a tendency to leave his blockers in the screen game.

Overview

Wilson is a good all around back.

However, he's a junior and only a one-year starter. He has very little mileage and might have some issues with the pro-game blitzing schemes. He can also be a good fit for the kick return spot.

How he would fit into the Falcons' plans

Wilson would be a good fit for an all-around running back and starting return man and could end up as a potential first-round pick. He likely is just a due-diligence meeting as Wilson is looking like a late first-round pick.
