The Road to Tampa: The 2008-2009 NFL Season

Mike MorrisseyJan 22, 2009

It's been a hard year for everyone.

The 0-16 Detroit Lions, the first team to go 0-16, but definitely not the last.

The Tennessee Titans. Going 13-3, and after an earlier predicted Super Bowl run, lost in the Divisional Round to the Baltimore Ravens.

The Baltimore Ravens. Looked like they would go all the way, but fell short in the AFC Championship Game against the Steelers.

The New York Giants. Looking to go for a second Super Bowl in a row, but lost at home to the Eagles.

There have been many heartbreaks, but two teams have made it. One against odds against them, the other a powerhouse of the AFC.

On Feb. 1, the underdog Arizona Cardinals will take on the Pittsburgh Steelers in Super Bowl 43. Arizona, who won the NFC Championship for the first time since 1947, and the Steelers going for their sixth Super Bowl win.

The Cardinals are definitely the underdogs here, and most people favor the Steelers. But there are a few key things that will leave them victorious.

1. Kurt Warner: This guy has a cannon that is still going strong. He is definitely one of the best Quarterbacks in the NFL, and is accompanied by extremely talented Wide Receivers. Which leads onto...

2. Larry Fitzgerald: This guy is a huge factor in the game. If the ball gets in his hands, which is no problem with Kurt Warner as the QB, odds are it's going in for six points. With an amazing three touchdowns in just the First Quarter last week against Philadelphia, the Steelers will have to work hard to catch this bird!

3. Anquan Boldin: Another deadly Wide Receiver. In their Wild Card game, Boldin ran for a 71-yard Touchdown! The Steelers have to keep their eyes on him as well.

However, the Steelers have a great many more factors on their side.

1. Confidence: The Steelers have been doing great this year, and will run over anyone who gets in the way of them winning. They have great skill on both sides of the ball, and the confidence to not think, but know they have what it takes to win and know they will come home with another ring for their Super Bowl collection.

2. Ben Roethlisberger: Like Kurt Warner, he is another of the great Quarterbacks of the NFL. When Roethlisberger puts up the ball, it's almost always going to be a completion.

3. Santonio Holmes: Getting by three defenders to get a touchdown is no easy thing, especially against the Ravens defense, but Santonio Holmes did it with ease! If the Cardinals don't step up their defense for this game, Holmes will be their worst nightmare.

4. Hines Ward: One of the best in the league, a player with great hands and will run over whoever gets in his way. The Cardinals have got a lot of work to cover him and Santonio Holmes, along with keeping the ball on the ground by pressuring Ben Rothlisberger.

5. Troy Polamalu: There is no way to block this guy! Even though he could easily play Linebacker, he chose to be a Safety. In the Ravens game, he jumped over the Defensive and Offensive line on 4th-and-1 to take down the Ravens' QB to cause the Turnover on Downs.

All I have to say for the Cardinals is good luck; not many could make it to this point, and don't hold anything back. Do all you can to win and try to make the Cardinals' into the list of teams with a Super Bowl under their belt.
