LaMarcus Aldridge Injury: Latest Updates on Blazers Star's Hip Injury
LaMarcus Aldridge's sore hip, and the Blazers' nearly doomed playoff hopes, may keep him out of the remainder of the season.
This hip has bothered Aldridge for weeks now, and he had an MRI on it near the end of March. While he has played since then, there obviously was something going on that the test did not pick up.
UPDATE: Thursday, April 12 at 3:00 p.m. ET
The Blazers have gotten some bad news about Aldridge's hip. The team relayed the latest update via Twitter:
"Portland F/C LaMarcus Aldridge will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his his right hip to repair a labral tear and will be out for the season
— Trail Blazers PR (@TrailBlazersPR) April 12, 2012"
That will just about do it for the Blazers' 2011-2012 season. They're still technically alive in the playoff hunt, but they're not going to be able to make up the proper ground without Aldridge.
They'll have to hope for better luck next season.
CBS Sports' Ben Golliver relayed this information from the Blazers:
"The Blazers announced on Tuesday that Aldridge is heading to Vail, CO, to see a specialist because he is suffering "continuing soreness in his right hip." Aldridge underwent an MRI on that hip back on March 29. The test revealed no damage.
"
His latest MRI reportedly did pick something up, and it led to Jay Allen, the sports director for Sportsradio 750, having more ominous undertones to his tweet:
"Chad Buchanan says an MRI yesterday found an "abnormality" in LaMarcus Aldridge's right hip. Still being evaluated. Surgery not ruled out.

Aldridge is not a stranger to hip issues. As a freshman at the University of Texas, he had surgery on his hip in 2005.
With the Blazers' season completely unraveling, and them sitting 4.5 games out of the playoffs, this is a time for the team to execute caution on any possible injuries to their star player.
There is no reason for them to play Aldridge if there are any concerns. To their credit, they seem to agree. The Oregonian's Joe Freeman shared the Blazers' thoughts on shutting Aldridge down for the season.
It shouldn't take too long for there to be an official word on Aldridge's status. So keep it locked on this page as we bring you all the latest updates on the All-Star big man.
