NFL Draft 2012: Jim Irsay's Ryan Tannehill Tweets Show Colts Owner Untrustworthy
Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay is continuing his longstanding tradition of being a screwball on Twitter and releasing cryptic information.
Today, Irsay tweeted that Ryan Tannehill is the hidden gem of the 2012 NFL draft and worthy of being the No. 3 overall selection.
The Texas A&M quarterback has been slowly climbing up draft boards and is widely regarded as the third-best prospect at the position in the class. He’s expected to come off the board after Irsay’s Colts select Andrew Luck and the Washington Redskins pick Robert Griffin III.
Irsay believes that if a team wants to get their hands on Tannehill, they will have to contact “Zigi The Biggie”—a clear reference to Zygi Wilf, the owner of the Minnesota Vikings and the No. 3 selection.
What's more, ESPN's Kevin Seifert suggests that the Vikes would like to move down.
It initially seemed likely that Tannehill was going to go No. 8 overall to the Miami Dolphins, who desperately need a franchise QB. However, they may now need to seek a trade.
The Cleveland Browns hold the fourth overall pick. Furthermore, they made it publicly known that they were trying to trade with the St. Louis Rams for the second overall pick (to select RGIII) before the Redskins beat them to it.
That franchise clearly isn’t happy with Colt McCoy under center and could easily decide to go in a new direction by taking Tannehill at their current spot.
Miami may feel pressure to make a move with Minnesota and secure its future QB.
The Browns could also offer to swap some picks in order to move up a spot and ensure they get Tannehill if they decide he is their guy.
While Irsay isn’t the most reliable source of information, as he often sends out misinformation and jumbled messages on Twitter, he does have a point that the Aggies signal-caller is becoming more valuable by the day.
Perhaps someone will heed his advice and give “Zigi The Biggie” a call to discuss a trade.
