SEC Football Top 150 Players: No. 141, Chris Burnette, Georgia OL
Starting April 2, the SEC Blog will be counting down the top 150 players for 2012 in the SEC.
No. 141: Chris Burnette, No. 68, Offensive Guard, Georgia
Strengths
Burnette is being counted on to provide veteran leadership on an offensive line that is losing three starters from a year ago. Burnette started 12 of Georgia's 14 games at guard last season, so experience isn't an issue.
He was a member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll last fall, and that intelligence certainly helps for offensive linemen. He enters Georgia's spring game with a spot in the starting lineup, according to The Red and Black.
Weaknesses
Offensive lines are judged as a unit, and with three starters gone, Burnette hasn't had to provide veteran leadership yet.
It takes time for offensive lines to gel, and Burnette's experience will play a big role in that. With a game at Missouri in the second week of the season, that cohesion will have to take place quickly.
2012 Prediction
Offensive line coach Will Friend has brought a new mentality to the Georgia offensive line. It's very much a work in progress, but Burnette will be a big part of it all season long.
