Three Key Considerations for the Boston Celtics in the Second Half

Jason BennJan 21, 2009

Its been six straight wins now for the Boston Celtics and it really seems like they are back, but there are still a few things that I have questions about and things that seem like to happen.

1. Eddie House

The main part of this is his I have never liked him—yes, he is a great quick-release shooter, but thats his worse part as well; he is trigger happy if you will.

Yeah, he may have been in a slump lately, which for some odd reason seems to be solved with the shooting sleeve—it got Ray Allen out of his slump and now it seems like he's out of his—but! he is is not needed on the C's

Big deal—he helped with Game Four LAST YEAR, we won LAST YEAR, so what now?

He thinks he is that scorer off the bench, not the sixth man, but the guy they can rely on to make big shots if needed or to hold off the other team down a stretch  which he is not!

He has his nights like he did against Miami tonight, but they need a consistent scorer, not streaky scorer. House is not what the C's need off the bench and he is not worth the pay—trade him and another player for a big man or a consistent scorer.

2. C's Basketball

It seems like during the first streak they had, it was go and kill the team with intensity right away, have a ridiculous lead in the first ,then either let them get close or lose the lead in the second, get yelled at by Doc Rivers, then kill them in the third to a point where the starters never come in for the fourth quarter.

It worked great, but they have shown that they couldn't continue with that pace, but that was because it was game, rest, game, rest, game, game, rest, game.

That's an insane schedule to keep pace with, but now they get substantial rest in between games, so if rest is what they need to keep playin intensely, now is the time go and play hard like you did in the first half of the season, but this time for three quarters straight.

They are getting notorious for playin the score—"hey, we are up by 30, I'm going to be lazy till the bench comes in and walks the ball up the court when we killed the team by pushing the ball and attacking."

I think if they killed the team in the first, continued through to the third quarter, yes, they will be tired, but then the bench will play the fourth and the starts get extra rest.

They have shown that they need the rest to be great and it doesnt make them rusty, so ATTACK, ATTACK, ATTACK for three quarters, then the 4th quarter is display time for the bench to be considered useful in a trade.

3. Scorer and a Big

Even the other guy, I forgot his name, said they need to get a good scorer and a big guy off the bench.

Three things I want to say about that:

1) Yes, he's right,

2) they have a decent big guy in Patrick O'Bryant, but they dont they play him. He is a true 7-footer and he barley plays and they signed him for three years and $3 million about and had at one point said he would be back up for Kendrick Perkins—why dont they play him?!

3) Who can they trade and for what big and scorer?

Now could they find another James Posey type—hmmmmm... not likely, he's a rare player that can play quite a few positions and hit shots down the stretch; exactly what they needed last year.

So who could you look at for bigs? Brad Miller on the Sacramento Kings is up, hell, Dallas talked of trading Dirk Nowitzki. What a steal! Cap room is a huge thing with them, so they don't have to many options and I plan to figure out who they could possibly trade with that is within the cap, as there are possible bench players to toss: Eddie House, Tony Allen, Glen Davis, Gabe Pruitt, hell, if Perkins' shoulder gets worse, him too, although I would hate that.

That's all for today; just wanted to leave with a little fun fact:

The Celtics are undefeated when Brian Scalabrine plays in the first half.  Maybe someone should inform Doc Rivers.
