Bobby Petrino: Ex-Arkansas Football Coach Issues Statement Regarding Firing

Ryan RudnanskyApr 10, 2012

After Bobby Petrino was fired as Arkansas' head football coach on Tuesday, he released a statement, via ArkansasSports360.com.

Petrino, married with four children, was fired after concealing an affair he had with 25-year-old Jessica Dorrell, who he hired as student-athlete development coordinator last month.

Part of Petrino's statement read, via ArkansasSports360.com:

"

The simplest response I have is: I’m sorry. These two words seem very inadequate. But that is my heart. All I have been able to think about is the number of people I’ve let down by making selfish decisions. I’ve taken a lot of criticism in the past. Some deserved, some not deserved. This time, I have no one to blame but myself.

"

Petrino leaves behind a successful four seasons on the football field for Arkansas, in which he compiled a 34-17 record. He's coming off a 29-16 Cotton Bowl victory against No. 8 Kansas State.

Petrino has certainly had bumps in the road during his coaching career. He reportedly interviewed for Tommy Tuberville's head coaching job at Auburn when there was no vacancy, and he left the Atlanta Falcons with three games remaining in the regular season in 2007.

Toward the end of Petrino's statement, it reads:

"

I love football. I love coaching. I of course hope I can find my way back to the profession I love. In the meantime, I will do everything I can to heal the wounds I have created.

"

As a head coach in college football, Petrino has compiled a 75-26 overall record with Louisville and Arkansas.
