Please BJ Penn, Don't Disappoint the Fans!
There are very few things in my life beyond my family that bring me joy.
Lately I have been watching for any news I can find on the UFC 94 event and the fighters involved.
Fortunately for me, being a shut in with very little except the TV and my laptop to amuse me, I have been dedicated to watching Primetime for my Georges and BJ fix.
After watching the second installment tonight, I read through my email and found two different Google reports saying that BJ Penn has pulled the plug on the Primetime show because he did not like how he was being portrayed.
Well, paint me purple and color me confused!
All the cameras have done is follow both fighters around and recorded vignettes of the daily lives and training routines of Georges St. Pierre in Montreal and BJ Penn in Hawaii.
It is true that some of the trash talk has upset my stomach as well as my tender grandmother sensibilities, but I cannot understand what BJ thought he was signing on for when he agreed to this show in the first place.
A friend of mine on Bleacher Report hates it when one fighter threatens to kill another saying that to do such is next to being a criminal offence.
The "I am going to kill Georges" statements did not thrill me, especially as many times as BJ elaborated on his intentions for Georges in the fight on Jan. 31.
Being a law abiding person, I was sure that this was just BJ talking trash and have not expected any law enforcement agency to arrest him for what he is saying.
Neither did I expect BJ to take exception to Dana White's tirade after BJ kept refusing to accept his phone calls and joked about it on camera.
Now to hear BJ talk about how upset he is for being portrayed as being lazy and slacking off training, I am truly perplexed.
Does he expect Dana to like being deceived about his whereabouts and activities leading up to the most anticipated UFC fight in history?
I don't have the money invested in the organization that Mr. White has, but I surely can see why he would be concerned.
Right now, though, if BJ does pull out of the show I will be left knowing even less about the qualities he has that have garnered him so many loyal fans.
This would be unfortunate because I have had so many verbal wars with his fans in the past and now I will have fewer reasons to doubt my initial impressions of him.
His baby daughter and the scenes of them together was softening a spot in my heart due to the evidence of his love and devotion; something I have not seen in GSP who states he does not want to have children.
I was really looking forward to seeing more of the family side of BJ. Now I guess I won't get that chance.
Not many of us would look completely squeaky clean if followed around by camera crews and recorded during our daily lives.
Should BJ Penn expect to be different than a Grandma Dee who would be remembered forever by anyone watching as wearing some very tacky pajamas and sitting in a chair all day with the TV on and a lapboard computer on her lap?
Come on BJ, we are all human, so don't sweat the small stuff, especially when you have said the same thing about yourself in the past.
As for me?
I got a lot of new matching pajamas for Christmas—I'm ready for the cameras.
