NFL Draft 2012: Latest Rumors and News Heading into Big Day

Gabe ZaldivarApr 11, 2012

Thursday, April 26 can't come quickly enough. A star-studded draft board has piqued our interest, and it's about time we find out what the future holds.

Well, it's time to kick back and wait just a little longer, because we still have a couple weeks to wait until the big day.

That means there is still time for teams to change their minds and draft the player they really need. As you will see, it also gives teams plenty of opportunity to sell themselves on some pretty ridiculous ideas.

Here is the NFL draft as it sits right now.

Miami Dolphins

There may be a huge trade on the horizon, and it involves a team that is completely sold that they need a franchise quarterback immediately.

ESPN's Bill Polian breaks down the trade possibilities heading into the draft, and the most plausible would be the Miami Dolphins moving up for the Minnesota Vikings' No. 3 pick.

"

In my estimation, the only available player who fits the bill is Texas A&M's Ryan Tannehill, a prospect who has been climbing draft boards in recent days. After Tannehill, the next most attractive prospect is probably Brandon Weeden. But Weeden will be 29 years old on Oct. 14, 2012, older even than (Matt) Moore. Tannehill is more of an upside pick, but again if you love that upside and the price isn't prohibitive, he makes sense.

"

The obvious worry for the Dolphins is that they tame Ryan Tannehill at No. 4, taking the total number of teams that are completely crazy to two.

This is a reach, no matter how you try to slice it. There is no way that overpaying for a tenuous first-round pick is a good thing, but to each his own.

St. Louis Rams

We all assume that the Rams are going to take Justin Blackmon, and the need for a receiver has been well documented.

What might shock you is that he isn't the Rams' first choice, rather star running back Trent Richardson.

CBS Sports directs us over to the The Sporting News' Russ Lange, whose mock draft has a rather interesting tidbit included where the Rams select.

"

Our sources tell us the Rams' first choice is Richardson. But he is already off the board, so they grab Blackmon to give Sam Bradford an elite receiving weapon.

"

Richardson should be long gone by then, but it's still interesting to know where they stand in case there are some real surprises on draft night.

Washington Redskins

ESPN reports Robert Griffin III has met with the Washington Redskins, and Andrew Luck will follow suit in the next couple of days.

RG3 failed to work out with either the Redskins or Colts due to injury concerns, but it will hardly hurt his already sky-high draft stock.

Luck did give a private workout for the Colts and is still the presumed No. 1 overall pick.
