5 'Battle of the Sexes' Tennis Matches We'd Pay to See
There is perhaps a thick line between the popularity of men's and women's tennis. However, there are just as many iconic women as there are men in the sport.
Mixed doubles and playing on the same team are the only opportunities where women are allowed to compete with the opposite gender, but that does not mean it is not enjoyable.
Athletes such as Billie Jean King, Martina Navratilova and the Williams sisters have even gone so far as to challenge the men in "Battle of the Sexes" exhibition matches.
Here are the top five matchups that all tennis fans would give good money to experience.
Lleyton Hewitt/Sam Stosur vs. Novak Djokovic/Ana Ivanovic
1 of 5I would even pay to see Bernard Tomic take Hewitt's place.
Regardless of the fact that Stosur is the only player out of the four to not reach the No. 1 ranking, this matchup of the Serbian and Australian nations would still be enthralling, to say the least.
Rafael Nadal vs. Petra Kvitova
2 of 5The two best lefties in each respective gender facing each other sounds lovely to me.
Unfortunately, Kvitova's crosscourt forehand would do her no good here.
Roger Federer vs. Serena Williams
3 of 5The two most recognized athletes on each side could play a singles exhibition and raise incredible amounts of money (because clearly they have not made enough in their lifetimes).
They each have good serves, volleys and groundstrokes, so it would be an interesting affair.
Besides, facing a male athlete wouldn't be new for Serena.
John Isner/Sam Stosur vs. Ivo Karlovic/Serena Williams
4 of 5...And the most ridiculous thought of all of mine comes out!
Seeing these four heavy servers in a mixed doubles match actually seems like the most likely encounter to be a close and tight one.
These players should at least give fans a tiebreak to smile about.
Roger Federer/Venus Williams vs. Rafael Nadal/Serena Williams
5 of 5This would be the highest-grossing mixed doubles match of all time, and it could even surpass Billie Jean King's accomplishment by becoming the most viewed live tennis match in history.
I would definitely secure myself good tickets for this one, and I would pray for the Williams sisters to bring their best stuff to the court.
