Portsmouth Invitational 2012: Event Is Last Chance for NBA Prospects to Impress
The Portsmouth Invitational is one of the last chances for NBA prospects to impress pro scouts before Junes' NBA Draft, which makes the tournament very important for players who are on the fringe between being a second-rounder or not being selected at all.
Games will start on Wednesday and run through Saturday. Some notable NBA players such as Jeremy Lin of the New York Knicks have participated in the Portsmouth Invitational. Jimmy Butler of Marquette was a first-round pick by the Chicago Bulls last season and also participated in this tournament.
While almost all of the potential first-round picks won't be at this tournament, many players who are looking to be drafted in the second round will be.
The following players will be at this year's Portsmouth Invitational and could be good NBA players as second-round picks:
- Scoop Jardine, Syracuse
- Bradford Burgess, Virginia Commonwealth
- Ralph Sampson III, Minnesota
- Yancy Gates, Cincinnati
Playing against other players who could be drafted in the same part of the draft is you is a great way to prove yourself to NBA scouts. Playing against similar players allows scouts to see how their talents stack up against each other.
For many prospects, this is the final opportunity to impress scouts, so the action at the Portsmouth Invitational will be awesome.
