Masters 2012 Payout: Tiger Woods and Other Stars Who Earned Small Payouts

Nicholas GossJun 2, 2018

Bubba Watson earned $1.44 million for winning the green jacket at the Masters this past weekend, but not all of golf's biggest stars earned major payouts.

In fact, a number of the sport's best players performed poorly at Augusta and did not receive a good check for their four days of play.

Let's look at three star players who disappointed and earned small Masters payouts.

Tiger Woods

Tigers Woods' reward for finishing the Masters was a small $29,600, which to me and you is a lot of money but for a player like Tiger, that's a really bad payout.

Woods finished T-40th at Augusta and his five-over par score at the end of the tournament was his worst showing at the Masters since he became a professional.

Woods certainly has a lot of work to do before he earns another huge payout at Augusta.

Rory McIlroy

Many experts and golf fans expected Rory McIlroy to be a top contender at the Masters, but he finished T-40th as a result of a disastrous third round in which he shot a 77.

He followed that 77 on Saturday with a 76 in Sunday's final round, leaving him five-over par to finish the tournament, earning a $32,800 payout.

McIlroy has now had two Masters meltdowns in the last two years, and needs to be more composed at Augusta next year or the same result will happen.

Luke Donald

The world's No. 1 ranked golfer finished T-32 and took home $47,200 in a disappointing performance at Augusta.

Donald shot over par in every round except Sunday's final round, and played awful for the entire tournament.

If Donald doesn't improve his game quickly, he will lose his No. 1 ranking and his confidence as the US Open approaches.
