TNA: Why the Austin Aries/Bully Ray Feud Has Potential to Be One of the Best

David LevinJun 6, 2018

Something new and something better. That is how you have to look at the Bully Ray/Austin Aries feud.

These two great performers meeting face-to-face, heel vs. heel, in matches that mean something.

Yes, wrestling matters again in TNA.

Aries needs the push toward main event status. Bully Ray needs a dance program and partner to fight with because Bobby Roode is a little busy with James Storm.

Whatever the reason, it just works. And these are the reasons why.

Both Are Great Performers

Bully Ray's improvements since becoming a singles competitor have been well-documented, and the way he takes control in the ring is true to the "old-school" heel character.

Aries is a smaller yet intimidating "bully" who gets his way in the ring. He does not back down from a fight and is the antagonist everyone loves to hate.

Both Are Two of the Best on the Mic and Give Great Promos

Bully Ray has really picked his game up in this part of his persona. He calls wrestlers out. He threatens. He makes you feel like he is the most important wrestler in the building, and he knows when to use his words wisely.

Aries has some Ric Flair in him. He has some Eddie Gilbert in him. And he has his own shtick. There isn't a more confident wrestler on the roster. And given the chance, they will talk in a vignette that will leave us wanting more.

Aries Finally Gets a Push Toward Main Event Status

I have been preaching this for a while.

Aries is a main event waiting to happen.

Yes, Bobby Roode, James Storm, Jeff Hardy and others are on the top of the mountain, but Aries could surpass them all.

Aries may be a great X-Division wrestler, but he could be so much more in this company, much like AJ Styles.

It Gives TNA Another Program to Work with

4 of 5

Bobby Roode and James Storm are locked in a program. Jeff Hardy and Kurt Angle are locked in a program. Ken Anderson, Styles, Daniels and Kazarian are as well.

This is a great fit for TNA. It's new and it's fresh, and it's something the fans can enjoy. It also pushes Aries into a "face" role.

We Love the Underdog

5 of 5

Not that Aries has anything to be ashamed of.

We love the idea of Aries, who is half the size of Bully Ray, selling for him, and vice versa. Part of these guys' greatness is the ability to sell for their opponents.

Aries flops all around the ring. Bully Ray looks like he is bring destroyed when he is on the defensive.

It's great acting and drama, and we all eat it up.
