Floyd Mayweather vs. Miguel Cotto: 3 Bold Predictions for the May 5 Brawl
Floyd Mayweather is set to face Miguel Cotto in a few weeks. If you are looking for factual statements about that fight, you won't find them here.
However, be ready to get three shocking predictions in regards to that fight. You might not like them, but it is very likely that those three will happen on May 5.
3. The Post-Fight Interview Will Be More Entertaining Than the Actual Fight
1 of 3Everyone has talked about the last interview of Larry Merchant with Money May. If you're living in the same world as me, you probably have seen the video a dozen times.
Nevertheless, I'm not sure the fight will live up to the hype. HBO will try to create some anticipation toward this fight with the 24/7 series, but in the end, we're not even sure Cotto is strong enough to compete with the undefeated champion.
We do know one thing. Larry Merchant is able to trash talk with Pretty Boy. While I'm not sure that this fight will be an exciting one, the post-fight interview will be. Mayweather won't run away from Merchant as he loves to be in front of the spotlight.
Look for him to confront Merchant.
2. There Will Be at Least One Knockdown
2 of 3Based on Las Vegas lines, the odds maker believe this fight will go over the middle of the ninth round.
In the contrary, I believe that is a perfect knockout fight. Cotto is aware of one thing. He needs to knock Mayweather to have a chance in this fight. He will pressure Pretty Boy and will try to combine rights, left hooks and a few uppercuts. Cotto needs to be a brawler in that fight if he wants to succeed.
Miguel Cotto has 30 knockouts in his 37 wins. He has power.
On the other end, if Cotto is turning this in a street fight, he will be an easy target for Floyd. If Cotto can't land damageable punches, Mayweather will accurately hit him with power punches, thus increasing the knockout chances.
In brief, Cotto must turn this fight into a war. If he succeeds, he can send Mayweather down. If he can't, then his own strategy will turn against him and he could en up visiting the canvas.
3. Floyd Mayweather Will Win Easily
3 of 3According to CompuBox, Floyd Mayweather is the best of all time. In his career, he has connected on 46 percent of his punches while his opponents only hit him with 16 percent of their thrown punches.
It is definitely an unbelievable achievement. Pretty Boy is probably the best technician to ever step on the ring. He is simply better than Miguel Cotto.
This fight should have happened a few years ago. Cotto might have had a chance back then, but not anymore. Money May is too accurate, quick and his ability to roll punches is unmatched.
Love him or hate him, but this will be a one sided fight in favor of Floyd Mayweather. Las Vegas favors him at -700, and they are right doing so.
The final scorecard won't even be close.
