Tiger Woods: Why Superstar Doesn't Need To Worry About Poor Masters Performance

Tiger Woods may have had his worst finish at the Masters in 17 attempts (he finished T-41, the same finish he had in 1995 as an amateur), but it doesn’t mean he has much to be concerned about.

The one thing that derailed Woods in this tournament was his absolute atrocious driving, something he normally excels at and usually has no problem with at Augusta National.

He even admitted as much, according to the New York Daily News.

“It was an off week at the wrong time,” he said. “I didn’t hit the ball very good this week and what’s frustrating is I know what to do, and I just don’t do it,” he explained. “I get out there and I just don’t trust it at all. I fall back into the same old patterns again, and I just need to do more reps. Thank God my short game was good this week and my putting was really good. Unfortunately they were all for pars, not for birdies.

Woods can figure out how to hit the long ball again, especially in the two months leading up to the next major—the U.S. Open at the Olympic Club in San Francisco.

If his short game and putting are that incredible after a solid approach, the 14-time major winner is going to be just fine and still has plenty of years of his prime left to catch Jack Nicklaus and his record of 18 wins in major events.

Tiger is only 36 years old and has plenty left in the tank. The fact that he’s had such a disappointing stretch following a personal collapse is understandable and if it’s going to take him more time to get things figured out on the course, he has it.

It’s a shame that a superstar like Woods is having such a rough patch, but he’ll get it together and become dominant once more before fading into the twilight of his career.
