World Football Gossip Roundup: City in Punch-Up, Dalglish in Danger, Dempsey Coy

Michael CummingsJun 7, 2018

Monday's gossip roundup is a safe haven for players and managers in trouble.

Manchester City might be in the middle of a breakdown, but there's space for them here.

Liverpool are having a nightmare run, but they're welcome, too.

Per Mertesacker might be done at Arsenal, but he's not done here.

All those stories and more await in the roundup. Keep reading for more.

A Punch-Up and a Clear-Out?

1 of 6

The fallout continues following Manchester City's loss to Arsenal on Sunday.

Not long after the match, the club denied rumors of a post-match punch-up in the dressing room.

According to talkSport, former City player Rodney Marsh is saying a summer clear-out is possible.

"

“I think there is a possibility there could be an enormous clear-out, and when I say enormous, I mean like six or seven or even eight players gone, possibly even the manager, because Man City are a great football team, a great football club and if they’re going to challenge next year they have to go out all guns blazing, all the time for a whole 90 minutes for a whole season."

"

One of the players in question could be Adam Johnson, who is wanted by Sunderland, according to Metro.

Dalglish Out? Suarez Too?

Uncertainty also reigns at Anfield as Liverpool tumble down the table.

According to the Daily Star, Uruguayan forward Luis Suarez will quit the club if manager Kenny Dalglish is fired.

That might happen soon.

According to the Daily Mail, Liverpool's American owners will meet with Dalglish on Saturday ahead of the FA Cup clash with Everton.

Dempsey Plays Coy

American fans will be interested to know the latest about Clint Dempsey, who scored twice more this weekend for Fulham.

According to British tabloid The Sun, Dempsey has declined to rule out a summer transfer.

"

“We’ll see what happens. Some of my best memories have been at Fulham.

“I still have this season and one more at the club. I’m talking with Fulham, but we’ll see in the summer.

“I just want to focus on my football and helping the club finish in the top half. That other stuff can take care of itself.”

"

Dempsey, 29, joined Fulham in 2007 from the New England Revolution of MLS.

Nesta to Juventus?

4 of 6

Andrea Pirlo wants former AC Milan teammate Alessandro Nesta at Juventus.

From Goal.com:

"

Goal.com recently revealed that the centre-back would be open to a move to the Turin giants at the end of the 2011-12 campaign, and Pirlo has now made it clear that he has already spoken with his former teammate about an eventual transfer.

"Nesta to Juve next year? We have indeed discussed this option," Pirlo stated to Sky Italia.

"However, in the end this is something personal. He already plays at a great team. We'll see what he decides at the end of the season."

"

Juventus lead AC Milan by one point atop the Serie A table. Nesta is 36.

Mertesacker out at Arsenal?

5 of 6

Per Mertesacker may have already played his final game for Arsenal.

The giant German defender, signed at the transfer deadline last summer, has been out of the squad in recent weeks through injury.

Mirror Football, citing an unspecified report, says he'll be sold this summer.

Arsenal have been linked with Belgian central defender Jan Vertonghen, who currently plays for Ajax.

Rossi out at Villarreal?

6 of 6

Finally, Goal.com says Italian striker Giuseppi Rossi could leave Villarreal this summer.

Duh, you say? Well, this time it's Rossi's own words.

"

"Obviously it's an idea which is nice because I think many players would like to play in the best leagues in the world. That's La Liga, that's the Premier League and that's Serie A," he explained.

"Like I said, you never know what's going to happen in football."

"

Rossi, 25, has been sidelined with a long-term injury.
