NFL Draft 2012: 2nd-Rounders Who Will Be Pro Bowlers in First Year

Nicholas GossJun 7, 2018

Even though the best talent in the 2012 NFL draft will be taken in the first round, there are several potential second-round gems who could turn into Pro Bowlers in their rookie season.

Not only are many of these second-round draft choices very talented, they are extra motivated to play well as rookies in order to prove they should have been chosen in the first round.

Let's look at three players who will be Pro Bowlers next season as second-round selections.

Alshon Jeffery, WR, South Carolina

Alshon Jeffery is a very talented wide receiver who will be a huge value pick in the second round. He has exceptional hands and is capable of making tough catches even with defenders all over him.

His good strength and quickness also allows him to break games open with big plays downfield. If the Indianapolis Colts select Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck with the No. 1 overall pick like many expect, then taking a wide receiver with their second-round pick (34th overall) makes a ton of sense.

Luck could be a fantastic rookie and has all the tools needed to get the most out of Jeffery's talent. With the Gamecocks wide receiver and Reggie Wayne as his top wideouts, Luck and the Colts offense could be quite dangerous next season.

Kendall Wright, WR, Baylor

A solid pro day might help Baylor star receiver Kendall Wright sneak into the end of the first round, but as a second-round selection he's an absolute steal.

Wright has great speed and is a fantastic deep threat with his good route running. His quickness also helps him get open against talented defensive backs.

The Vikings at pick No. 35 make a lot of sense for Wright, because only Percy Harvin had more than 27 receptions last season for Minnesota.

With Wright, Harvin and star running back Adrian Peterson, the Vikings offense could be much better in 2012 than it was last season.

Nick Perry, DE, USC

Nick Perry is a very talented pass-rusher whose speed and quickness help him get to opposing teams' quarterbacks effectively.

He doesn't have the size you would expect from an NFL defensive end, but his athleticism offsets the concerns over his lack of strength.

The Jacksonville Jaguars really need to rush the quarterback better next year, which makes them a logical landing spot for Perry at No. 38 overall.

Perry could certainly lead the Jaguars in sacks next season if they choose him in the early second round.
