Masters 2012 Leaderboard: Bubba Watson Will Soar to Victory on Sunday

Justin WeltonJun 7, 2018

Bubba Watson has been floating around the top of the leaderboard for three days at the 2012 Masters. Nobody has been talking about him because all eyes are elsewhere, but they better start paying attention.

Watson will have his best day at the Masters on Sunday to win the green jacket.

Quietly, Watson has been under par in each of his three rounds, shooting a 69, 71 and 70. Peter Hanson, Phil Mickelson and Louis Oosthuizen, the three guys ahead of Watson, can't say that they have been under par in each of the rounds.

Watson has played the most consistent golf in this year's tournament and we will see him amp it up another level while the pressure is cranked to the maximum on Sunday.

His attitude is perfect for Masters Sunday—care-free golf that only he trusts. He just believes in his swing and rides with it. I don't see him getting rattled under any type of pressure.

Besides, all the pressure is on Hanson who leads the field at nine under and Mickelson who has won a green jacket and is in the final pairing.

Watson has been close in the past two tournaments, finishing fourth at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and second at the World Golf Championships. He won't let this one slip away without finishing on top.

Masters Sunday provides great theatre year after year. Usually it is for the wrong reasons like choking on the back nine, falling to pieces throughout the entire 18 or having one awful hole that ruins the day.

The 2012 Masters will be a little different, however. Some may crumble, but there will be one that soars to the green jacket.

His name is Bubba Watson.
