Masters Leaderboard 2012: Predicting Final Outcomes for Top 10

Jesse ReedJun 2, 2018

There is only one round remaining in the 2012 Masters, and the leaderboard is full of big-time players who are all capable of walking away with the green jacket.

Though predicting the future is often a foolish proposition, it is fun to do nevertheless.

Here are my predictions for the final-round scores of the top 10 golfers on the leaderboard after three rounds.

With Jayson Tatum sidelined, Celtics' fourth-quarter comeback falls short in Game 7 loss to 76ers

Peter Hanson, Currently -9

Hanson leads the tournament after three rounds, but I don't expect him to hold on to that lead today. The only other time Hanson has competed at the Masters was last year when he didn't even make the cut.

Prediction: Hanson will suffocate when the pressure is on today, shooting four over par.

Phil Mickelson, Currently -8

Mickelson is in his element. He's won at Augusta three times before and won't be affected by the pressure as much as most.

Prediction: Lefty will pull away from the field and shoot four under par.

Louis Oosthuizen, Currently -7

Though Oosthuizen hasn't ever had success at the Masters, he is a major champion and came in third at the Shell Houston Open only a week ago.

Prediction: Oosthuizen will hang tough and shoot two under par.

Bubba Watson, Currently -6

Watson hasn't lived up to expectations on tour quite yet, winning only five tournaments thus far in his career. He has the game to win a major, but it won't be this year.

Prediction: Watson will stay in the top five, shooting three under par.

Matt Kuchar, Currently -5

Kuchar is in the same boat as Watson. He's a talented young player, but he's only won three professional tournaments.

Prediction: Kuchar will finish the fourth round at even par.

Lee Westwood, Currently -4

Westwood is always a threat in major championships. His even-tempered approach and rock-solid game makes him a dangerous man on Sundays.

Prediction: Westwood will make a charge but come up short, shooting four under par.

Henrik Stenson, Currently -4

Stenson has had moderate success as a professional, but Augusta has always given him trouble. So far, he's avoided running into it this week, but I expect him to flounder on day four.

Prediction: Stenson will suffer a meltdown, shooting five over par.

Padraig Harrington, Currently -4

Harrington is a three-time major champion that is always dangerous when he's in contention. His demeanor and game gives him a chance to make a strong push up the leaderboard.

Prediction: Harrington will have some ups and downs, shooting one under par.

Hunter Mahan, Currently -4

Mahan has challenged Augusta a couple times in the past, finishing in the top 10 in 2009 and 2010. He has had a solid week, but I expect him to have a terrible round on Sunday.

Prediction: Mahan will tank, shooting six over par.

Paul Lawrie, Currently -3

Lawrie has never been in this spot before at the Masters. His best finish came in 2003 when he came in tied for 15th place. I don't expect him to last long on the leaderboard today.

Prediction: Lawrie is going to bomb, shooting six over par.

If you buy my predictions, the current leaders' final scores will look like this:

Golfer      Final Score
Phil Mickelson -12
Louis Oosthuizen -9
Bubba Watson-9
Lee Westwood -8
Peter Hanson-4
Bubba Watson-4
Padraig Harrington -4
Henrik Stenson+1
Hunter Mahan +2
Paul Lawrie +3
