Tiger Woods: Childish Reactions on Course are Indicative of a Bigger Problem

Jesse ReedJun 7, 2018

Tiger Woods is infamous for his incredibly childish reactions on the golf course after bad shots—a pattern that shows me there is a bigger problem lurking beneath the surface.

Woods has been fined in the past by officials, so this wouldn't be the first. The latest example came last year when he was busted for spitting and swearing at the Dubai Desert Classic, a European event.

The worst part about his behavior is that he isn't exactly contrite when he gets caught.

For example, after he kicked the golf club, he apologized, via Augusta.com:

"

I'm sorry if I offended anybody by that. I've hit some bad shots, and it's certainly frustrating at times not to hit the ball where I've needed to hit it.

I certainly heard that people didn't like me kicking the club. I didn't like it either. I hit it in the bunker, and it didn't feel good on my toe, either.

"

So, in essence, Tiger is saying he is sorry that people didn't like what he did, but he's not sorry he did it.

Classic Tiger.

The thing that stands out to me as I watch him come unglued on TV time after time, is that Woods doesn't seem to know any peace or place any value on anything other than success on the golf course.

If Woods isn't winning, he's not happy.

That is a terrific attitude to have in sports, but there is much more to life than success at your job.

Woods has lost his wife and his kids, and now it seems he's lost his game, as well.

Tiger needs to learn to find satisfaction in something other than the game of golf or he's going to wake up one day and realize his entire life was a complete waste of time.

ESPN's Rick Reilly recently wrote a troubling post about how Woods' three half-siblings—one of whom is completely disabled—haven't seen or heard from him since their father passed away in 2006.

Kevin Woods suffers from multiple sclerosis and is close to losing his house. He can't work and needs a caretaker, but the family has been ignored by Tiger even though they haven't stopped trying to reach out to him.

Earl Woods Jr. spoke to Reilly, saying:

"

I leave messages. I leave updates on Kevin, but for whatever reason I don't get a response. … Kevin loves Tiger. A call from Tiger would really pump Kevin up. When he doesn't call, it just makes him feel worse.

"

I know that Woods is busy with his training and everything, but I'm betting he'd find more success out on the golf course if he actually took some extra time to take care of his family.

He had a supermodel wife, two gorgeous kids and a seemingly perfect life at home—but Woods couldn't hang on to them due to his sexual addictions, which stem from his insecurity.

Life isn't about what we can accomplish or achieve in our professions. Success can be found at home with our friends and family.

Woods is ruining his life with his obsession for greatness, and the future doesn't look bright unless he learns to smell the roses along the way.
