WWE F-5 Report: The 5 F's to Brock Lesnar's Success in Wrestling

The Doctor Chris MuellerJun 7, 2018

Brock Lesnar returned to WWE two weeks ago following rampant reports that he had re-signed a short-term deal with the company who made him a household name.

Lesnar is one of WWE's quickest rising stars in history, having won the WWE Championship in his first year.

Since leaving the wrestling industry after becoming burnt out with the travel schedule, Brock had a short run in the NFL and then went on to have a very lucrative UFC career.

Lesnar reached new heights as a crossover star when he became the UFC Heavyweight Champion, cementing him in history as the first former WWE Champion to hold the UFC Championship.

Now that he is back, he is one of the hottest topics in wrestling. People are talking about why he is back, what he will do and how badly he will hurt those who get in his way.

I decided to take a different approach and look at some of the reasons Brock has been successful. In keeping with the wrestling-related terminology, I will take a look at the five F's to Brock's success in WWE.

Freedom

1 of 6

One thing Brock has, which very few in the wrestling industry have, is freedom. He is not chained down to WWE like many of the guys on long-term deals.

This gives him the ability to stay after this year-long run is over or move on to greener pastures. Having this kind of flexibility has to be comforting.

Lesnar has made a lot of money as both a wrestler and an MMA fighter on top of owning and operating a working farm. This kind of scratch makes it easy to do what you want, when you want.

If Lesnar were to just drop out of this deal, I am sure there would be repercussions, but he is not as confined to the WWE world as guys like John Cena.

Fame

Brock Lesnar is a name that is known by just about anybody with a TV and the slightest interest in sports. He has built himself up as a brand by participating in several sports and being successful at almost all of them.

He was an NCAA champion in wrestling, a WWE Champion and a UFC Champion. There are very few people who do not know who this man is by now simply because of the different types of coverage he has had over the years.

Having a built-in fanbase made it easy for WWE to bring him in and have the hype create itself. Fans were chanting his name before he ever came out from behind the curtain. That is fame if I have ever seen it.

Family

3 of 6

Having the support of one's family is always a good thing, and Brock has family who will support him through thick and thin.

He has a daughter from a previous relationship, two daughters with his wife Rena, better known to fans as Sable, and a step-daughter, which is Rena's from her relationship with Marc Mero.

Having this kind of family dynamic is healthy and makes for a much happier Brock, I am sure. He gets to do all his big press stuff and F-5 Cena, then he gets to go home and play with his daughters or spend time with his wife.

To me, it sounds like Brock Lesnar has a pretty good life, and that will make for a much more productive Lesnar who can contribute more to the business while he is here.

Friction

4 of 6

If there is one thing that helps create a good feud in WWE these days, it is the knowledge that some real-life issues may be involved.

Apparently, Lesnar and John Cena were not the best of friends during Brock's initial WWE run, and those issues have been brought up by numerous news outlets.

Whether it is real is not so much the point as fans thinking it is real. If we believe these two actually have some friction between them, then it is more likely to create interest and buzz about any potential match down the line.

With some other wrestlers possibly being unhappy about another former star coming in to take up screen time, it is clear that Lesnar has enough heat to last him through a Chicago winter.

Having a little bit of friction did not seem to hurt The Rock, and I doubt it will hurt Brock, either.

Fans

5 of 6

Brock Lesnar returned to WWE and he was instantly greeted with a warm welcome by his fans. Having a built-in fanbase from both UFC and his first run with WWE is certainly going to make this a huge return for WWE.

With Rocky only being a performer who will do a few dates a year, it is great that WWE was able to lock in Brock for a more involved run this time through.

Every wrestler has their fans, but when it comes to fans with a very loud opinion, Brock's fans are hard to beat.

His name was being chanted for several minutes before he even appeared on his first night back last week, and it only got crazier on this past Raw when he busted Cena open.

Having fans is different than having fame because famous people don't always have fans. If Brock was universally despised, then WWE would not have brought him back in such a big way.

Whether you like Brock or not, you have to accept that enough people do to make him a valuable asset and a good investment for WWE.
