Manchester City vs. Arsenal: Gunners Will Strike Major Blow to City's Title Run

Justin WeltonJun 7, 2018

The title drought will have to wait another year.

There are only seven games remaining for Manchester City. They trail Manchester United by five points in the English Premier League table. A loss would be extremely damaging to City's hopes for a league title.

After recording ties to Sunderland and Stoke City, the bottom will nearly fall out when they lose to Arsenal on Sunday at the Emirates Stadium.

This is the game of the year for City, given how few point opportunities they have remaining. They will get one more shot at United this season, but they have to at least be in striking distance for that game to matter.

I'm not sure if that will happen, because Arsenal will deliver City a loss on Sunday.

Despite Manchester City being on top of the table for most of the season, Arsenal needs this game more. They are sitting in the final Champions League position and Newcastle is hot on their tails.

A loss for Arsenal will be more devastating than a loss for City.

After winning seven-straight EPL games, the Gunners fell to Queens Park Rangers on March 31. That was a wake-up call.

They will come to the Emirates Stadium ready to leap-frog Tottenham for third place.

Manchester City is a team you can't trust. They had the league in their grasp, but only retrieved five points in the past four games. Three of those games came against Sunderland, Swansea City and Stoke City.

You won't win a championship playing that way.

Mario Balotelli is similar to a child on the pitch. When it's not going his way, or he doesn't get his way, he makes a scene. That won't change on Sunday.

Robert Mancini already feels like he could be out the door come season's end, according to ESPN.

"

"I know football very well," he said. "I left Inter after winning seven trophies and I still had a four-year contract. So in football anything can happen in any moment. Like the title race, things can change in one week.

"It's the same regarding my future. When you choose this job you know anything can happen. I don't have a problem with this because when you work hard for your job and improve your team, that's the important thing."

"

This has been an absolute tailspin that I don't see changing. Balotelli is acting ridiculous on the pitch, Mancini is slowly losing his team and they are playing a more desperate team in my opinion.

Arsenal will continue City's downfall on Sunday.

Prediction: Arsenal 3, Manchester City 2
