Bobby Petrino: Why Arkansas Coach Can No Longer Win the Living Room

Randy ChambersJun 7, 2018

Arkansas had one of the top recruiting classes in 2012, landing several top players and difference-makers on both sides of the field. In 2013, they've already received a commitment from a top running back in Jamel James and nearly every top recruit in that class has Arkansas at least on their list to choose from.

You can likely kiss many of those recruits away and Razorback fans will unfortunately have to watch them play on Saturdays suiting up in another team's uniform.

That's because head coach Bobby Petrino was involved in a motorcycle accident earlier this week. That may sound simple enough, but he went on to lie and say that nobody was on the bike with him when he went down. The police report says much different. Petrino was actually riding around with 25-year-old Jessica Dorrell, who recently became the Arkansas foundation assistant director.

Now, you can draw up your own conclusions on this whole mess and let your own imagination run wild on what you think was going on with that situation, but Petrino recently gave a statement and admitted to infidelity.

"

"I regret that I have not publicly acknowledged a passenger on the vehicle," Petrino said, via ArkansasSports360.com. "I have been in constant pain, medicated and the circumstances involving the wreck have come out in bits and pieces. That said I certainly had a concern about Jessica Dorrell’s name being revealed. In my press conference, I referred to her simply as ‘a lady’. My concern was to protect my family and a previous inappropriate relationship from becoming public."

"

That now makes Petrino a liar and a cheater and I don't know many parents who would feel comfortable with letting their kids play for somebody like that. Now, everybody is entitled to make mistakes, but this is something that could have been prevented, which makes this more of a bad choice rather than an accident.

Arkansas remains one of the top teams in the top conference in college football, but with this black cloud hanging over the university, I guarantee you the recruiting will suffer. And that's even if Petrino remains the head coach, which is a whole different conversation that will open up another can of worms once we get to it.

"I will fully cooperate with the University throughout this process and my hope is to repair my relationships with my family, my Athletic Director, the Razorback Nation and remain the head coach of the Razorbacks.”

It may be a little too late.
