UFC 97 Rumors Heat Up! Headline Announced?
According to MMA Canada, Dana White announced at the Ultimate Fighting Championship 93 post fight press conference that Chuck Liddell will be taking on Shogun Rua at UFC 97 in Montreal.
The Iceman was limited to only one fight in 2008 due to injury and suffered a brutal KO by the now current light heavyweight champion Rashad Evans.
That was Chuck's third loss in four fights and it drew widespread speculation that it would be Liddell's last.
Meanwhile Mauricio "Shogun" Rua is fresh off a revenge victory over Mark Coleman, however it was a less than impressive effort.
This was Shogun's first win in the UFC, and it came at the expense of a 44 year old Hall of Famer who may have stolen the fight in the second and third rounds had it gone to a decision.
There is no doubt that Rua will have to get his conditioning up to UFC level standards if he hopes to stand a chance against Liddell.
Another rumor has Roger Huerta in his last fight for the UFC before attempting a career in acting taking on former lightweight champion Sean Sherk.
The "Muscle Shark" Sherk rebounded from his first ever loss at lightweight to BJ Penn by defeating highly regarded prospect Tyson Griffin by unanimous decision at UFC 90 in October.
For Sherk he needs to show he is the best in a very crowded field of high caliber lightweights.
Huerta is thought to be among the best even after his loss to Kenny Florian at UFC 87.
Huerta considers GSP to be among one of his better friends, so the fans of Montreal will undoubtedly be behind "El Matador".
