WWE Smackdown Preview: 5 Things You Must Look for in Tonight's Episode (April 6)

Drake OzJun 7, 2018

See ya later, WrestleMania 28. It's time for Friday Night Smackdown.

Now that the WWE's biggest pay-per-view of the year is officially a thing of the past, we can look forward to tonight's episode of Smackdown, the first showing from the blue brand on the road to Extreme Rules.

There will undoubtedly be a lot of WrestleMania 28 fallout tonight, and hopefully, the start of some new feuds, rivalries and story lines.

If you're going to tune in to tonight's show, then you might want to have an idea of what you're going to see, right?

Well, that's what I'm here for.

Here are five things you should look for in the April 6th edition of Friday Night Smackdown.

WARNING: I will not reveal the results of any segments or matches, but I will address what is going to take place (without giving away the exact results), so some of you might consider these SPOILERS. STOP reading if you do and want to be completely surprised.

5. What Will Happen to Teddy Long?

1 of 5

At WrestleMania 28, Team Johnny got the victory over Team Teddy, meaning that John Laurinaitis is now the general manager of both Raw and Smackdown.

So, where does that leave Teddy Long?

Long has been the GM of Smackdown on-and-off since 2004, so the blue brand isn't really accustomed to having anyone other than Long running it.

That's definitely going to change now that Laurinaitis is in control, but it'll be interesting to see what, if anything, the future holds for Long.

Expect to see Long's situation addressed on tonight's Smackdown, which looks to be the end of the "Holla, holla, holla" era.

4. Randy Orton vs. Kane

2 of 5

It was revealed on this week's episode of Monday Night Raw that Randy Orton would face Kane in a WrestleMania rematch on tonight's Smackdown.

But it's not going to be just a normal bout. This time, it's a No Disqualification match.

Kane surprised a lot of people with his victory over Orton at Mania, so there's no doubt that Orton will be looking to even up the series at one a piece, with a big win over Kane tonight.

That No DQ stipulation should add a nice little twist to this story, which has fallen pretty flat so far.

Orton and Kane faced off in that great Street Fight on Smackdown last summer, and I'd expect tonight's No DQ match to rival, if not top, that match.

3. Daniel Bryan Addresses What Happened at WrestleMania

3 of 5

At WrestleMania 28, Daniel Bryan lost the World Heavyweight Championship to Sheamus in an astounding 18 seconds.

His shocking loss was the second-quickest World title match in WrestleMania history. And not surprisingly, I can guarantee that Bryan isn't too happy about it.

Many are saying that Bryan only lost the match because AJ distracted him with that kiss, so it'll be interesting to see whether he addresses that or not.

Hmm...Sheamus, the World title and AJ?

Bryan's sure got a lot of things on his mind, and thus, will have plenty to cover tonight when he addresses the WWE Universe.

2. Two Big Returns/Debuts

4 of 5

Don't worry—I'm not going to totally spoil the show for you.

But I will tell you that tonight's episode of Smackdown will give us the returns/debuts of two superstars who might look very familiar to you.

Yet, at the same time, they're going to look much different. You get what I'm saying?

John Laurinaitis brings in these two superstars to make their debuts on the blue brand, which could be a sign of things to come.

Perhaps in something similar to the "New Superstar Initiative" we saw on ECW a few years back, Laurinaitis is going to start bringing in new talent to the WWE on a consistent basis.

And that will start tonight.

1. The Progression of Sheamus/ADR and Sheamus/Bryan

5 of 5

Although Sheamus just beat Daniel Bryan to win the World Heavyweight Championship, Bryan isn't the only superstar who he has beef with.

On this week's Raw, we saw what looks like the start of some sort of storyline between Alberto Del Rio and Sheamus, who are set to face each other in tonight's main event.

It's not totally clear why ADR is targeting Sheamus, and exactly what his intentions are, but it is clear that something is going on between the two.

But what about Bryan?

Sheamus isn't just going to forget about him, and Bryan certainly won't want to let ADR interrupt his quest to regain the World Heavyweight Championship.

So, could we see the start of some major beef between ADR, Sheamus and Bryan on tonight's Smackdown?

Tune in to find out.

Note: As part of the new WWE blog, I'll be asking all of the B/R wrestling readers for questions for a new mailbag that I will post on Fridays. It will be a slideshow featuring 10-20 questions and answers on a wide range of topics. You can submit questions either through Formspring or Twitter, and the best ones will be answered in the B/R mailbag.
