NFL Draft 2012: Profiling Former Georgia DB Brandon Boykin

Barrett SalleeJun 1, 2018

The NFL Draft is right around the corner, and one former SEC player that will be keeping an eye on the event is former Georgia cornerback Brandon Boykin.

Boykin finished off his stellar career at Georgia with a game for the ages in the Bulldogs' triple-overtime loss to Michigan State in the Outback Bowl.

He scored on defense (a safety), offense (a touchdown catch) and on special teams (punt return for a touchdown).  Not a bad day's work, even in a losing effort.

He finished third on his team, with three interceptions, in 2011 behind Bacarri Rambo and Shawn Williams, but that's largely because opposing quarterbacks threw away from him more times than not.

He has picked off nine passes for his career, and has totalled more than 800 return yards in each of his final three seasons between the hedges.

At 5-foot-9, Boykin's height will scare some scouts, but a quick look at his game time should quell those doubts.

He hasn't had the opportunity to impress during the pre-draft process due to a broken leg that he suffered during the Senior Bowl but, leading up to that game, he impressed scouts with his quickness.

Boykin will probably go sometime in the middle of the second round, but a lot will depend on his showing during his private workout on April 9th.

His versatility alone makes him an attractive piece for any NFL general manager.
