Saints Bounty: Stunning Audio Urging Players to Injure Condemns Gregg Williams

Eric BowmanApr 5, 2012

"Every single one of you, before you get off the pile, affect the head."Ā

Those are intense and insane words spoken by former New Orleans Saints defensive coordinator Gregg Williams before their playoff game against the San Francisco 49ers.Ā

FilmmakerĀ Sean Pamphilon passed along some extremely disturbing audio of WilliamsĀ instructing his players to do damage to the 49ers' top players, according toĀ Michael Silver of Yahoo! Sports.Ā

Pamphilon, who directed Run Ricky Run, an ESPN 30 for 30 film on the now-former NFL running back Ricky Williams,Ā was filming a documentary on theĀ Saints' Steve Gleason (who suffers from ALS) when Williams spoke these crazy words.Ā

During his 12-minute speech, Williams talks about Alex Smith and Frank Gore as the main targets, and how he was willing to drop cash to the person who took them out. He also speaks out taking down Kendall Hunter and going for Michael Crabtree's ACL.Ā

Williams even mentions to his players about going afterĀ Kyle Williams, a guy who only caught 13 passes all season long and was dealing with concussionĀ symptoms at the time.Ā

By now, everyone has most likely heard about the Saints having a big bounty program to physically harm opposing players in exchange for rewards.Ā

They received harsh punishments, and according to theĀ The Times-Picayune, NFLĀ commissionerĀ Roger Goodell will listen to the Saints appeal today. Ā

Williams is choosing not to appeal, but if he were, the news of the audio clip that broke this morning would ruin any hope he had of winning.Ā

Pamphilon put a clipĀ on YouTube, which you can see below. It's edited for time, so don't think Williams said all of this horrendous stuff at once. Ā

Warning: Audio NSFW, loaded with profanityĀ

Williams rubbing his fingers, signaling the cash sign and saying "I got the first one. I got the first one. Go get it. Go lay that [expletive] out," is sickening.Ā

Folks knew that this whole Bountygate scandal was bad, but audio proof of Williams sounding psyched about his players injuring others shows how bad this situation truly was.

Yes, the NFL is a physical game, but this is crossing the line, big time.Ā

Now that this is out for the world to see, or rather hear, it's a wonder if Williams will ever coach in the NFL again. Ā Ā

Saints head coach Sean Payton, general manager Mickey Loomis and assistant coach Joe Vitt will not benefit from this news, either.Ā

They could have made a good sales pitch to Goodell to get their suspensions reduced, but this audio would kill that.

The Bountygate scandal is far from over. Stay tuned with Bleacher Report as we update you with more news as it comes.
